A MEDICAL INTERPRETATION TRAINING WORKSHOP
INTENSIVE 3-SESSION COURSE IN PHILADELPHIA, PA BASED ON BRIDGING THE GAP

WORKSHOP PARTICIPANTS: This is a comprehensive 21-hour skill-building course for

interpreters based on Bridging the Gap methodology applied to the medical field. The students will be prepared to pass the certification test of Bridging the Gap.

WORKSHOP CONTENT: This is an interpretation training offered in Philadelphia that prepares students for the Bridging the Gap Certification test. It also effectively prepares participants for the simultaneous interpretation.

This hands-on course includes:

Training materials which will include the following: handouts and documents: vocabulary and terminology, practices and techniques, internet sites, most commonly used forms and, practice session examples.

Note: Participants are expected to have the proper language skills (approximate college level) in both English and the target language as a pre-requisite.

PROGRAM FORMAT:

The Interpreter training consists of three (3) modules: Ethics and Professional Practices, Medical Interpreting using the models of Bridging the Gap and the Cross Cultural Health Care Program; and Consecutive Interpreting.

In-class work is intensive, and it is expected that students spend at least an equal number of hours practicing and memorizing vocabulary lists at home. Throughout the sessions, students will work on specific modes of interpretation. The course also includes a mock test to prepare students for the Bridging the Gap examination.

Whenever possible, the hand-outs will be prepared language specific. The main language will be Spanish.

A test will be administered at end of each module session. Corrections to the test will be given to interpreters at the commencement of the following session.

After-hours assistance will be provided to interpreters on a limited basis to assist them with questions and homework.

THE INSTRUCTORS: A team of highly-qualified practicing interpreters with large professional and teaching experience will perform the training.

DATES: Sessions will be taught on three separate but consecutive Saturdays. Each session will consist of seven (7) hours with thirty minutes lunch time and two breaks of fifteen (15) minutes each. 4 official trainings will be performed during the year in winter, spring, summer and autumn (Dates TBD upon number of participants interested). Additional trainings might be scheduled depending on number of participants interested in taking the training.

Note: These are not separate courses. Participants must attend all of the sessions.

LOCATION: Global Arena Offices or other location (To be determined)

COST: $450 per participant. This price includes a $125 non-refundable registration fee that is required at least 4 weeks before the course starts. The remainder will be paid in full at least 2 weeks prior to the start of the workshop. You will not be refunded if you cancel your registration 2 weeks before the workshop begins. Payment by check or credit card is welcome (see below.)

ATTENDANCE IS LIMITED TO 40 PARTICIPANTS. Please note: Global Arena reserves the right to cancel a workshop, in which case we will reimburse participants in full or may apply the amount to the rescheduled program at participant's request.
