A COURT INTERPRETATION TRAINING WORKSHOP
INTENSIVE 5-SESSION COURSE IN PHILADELPHIA, PA
WORKSHOP PARTICIPANTS: This is a comprehensive 40-hour skill-building course for Spanish interpreters working toward passing the Consortium for State Court Interpreters Examination for Spanish.
WORKSHOP CONTENT: This is the only interpretation training offered in Pennsylvania that focuses solely on Spanish-English Judiciary interpreting, and prepares students for the upcoming State Certification exam. It effectively prepares participants for the simultaneous interpretation section of the exam, a challenging new requirement.
This hands-on course includes:
- Memorization of specific language vocabulary
- Vocabulary lists provided
- Legal, Medical, Weapons, etc.
- Spanish equivalents or solutions - language skills
- Mock trial situations to demonstrate proper techniques and skills in a modern language lab
- Proper note-taking skills and use of notes - professional skills
- 3 instructors working on the various modes of interpreting
- Simultaneous, Consecutive and Sight
- Homework assignments
Note: Participants are expected to have the proper language skills (approximate college level) in both English and Spanish as a pre-requisite.
PROGRAM FORMAT: The classes are held on 5 Saturdays over a 2-month period. In-class work is intensive, and it is expected that students spend at least an equal number of hours practicing and memorizing vocabulary lists at home. Throughout the sessions, students will work with different instructors on specific modes of interpretation. The course also includes a mock test to prepare students for the State examination.
THE INSTRUCTORS: A team of highly-qualified practicing interpreters led by Marta S. Goldstein, a recognized expert in the field of court interpreting as well as a Federal Court Certified Spanish Interpreter. Marta Goldstein has over twenty-six years of experience as a State and fifteen years as a Federal Court Interpreter, and is the Lead Faculty Trainer for the Maryland and Delaware Administrative Offices of the Courts. She is also a Certified Lead Examiner and Rater for the National Center for State Courts for interpreting candidates in the states of VA, DE, MD, NC and NM. Her assistants are also Federal Court Certified with years of experience.
